About Image Formats

JPEG vs PNG

JPEG uses lossy compression β€” ideal for photographs. PNG uses lossless compression with alpha channel support β€” perfect for logos, UI elements, and screenshots with text.

WebP β€” The Future

Google's WebP provides superior compression for both lossy and lossless images. WebP images are 25–35% smaller than comparable JPEG/PNG files and are now supported by all major browsers.

ICO Files

ICO is a container format holding multiple image sizes (16Γ—16, 32Γ—32, 256Γ—256). Used for Windows application icons and website favicons. Standard sizes are 16, 32, 48, 64, and 256 pixels.

Transparency

PNG and WebP support full alpha transparency. When converting PNG to JPEG (which has no alpha channel), this tool fills transparent areas with your chosen background color (default white).
