IP Address Information Guide

What is an IP Address?

An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique label assigned to every internet-connected device. IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses (e.g. 203.0.113.1) while IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses. Your public IP is assigned by your ISP and is visible to every website you visit.

Geolocation Accuracy

IP geolocation maps an IP address to a physical location using registry databases and routing data. Country-level accuracy typically exceeds 95%. City-level accuracy is 50–75%. VPNs, proxies, and corporate gateways will show the server location, not the user's actual physical location.

ASN & ISP Data

An Autonomous System Number (ASN) identifies a network operator — typically an ISP, cloud provider, or CDN. The org field shows the registered entity that owns the IP block. For cloud IPs (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud), this is typically the cloud provider rather than the end customer.

Privacy & VPN Verification

Your public IP reveals your ISP and approximate region to every website you visit. VPNs route traffic through a server in another location, masking your real IP. Use this tool to verify your VPN is active, audit where a server is hosted, or investigate an unfamiliar IP address.

IP Address Lookup – Frequently Asked Questions

Your public IP address is the address assigned to your internet connection by your ISP. This tool detects and displays it automatically when the page loads. It is the address visible to websites, online services, and network administrators.

Country-level accuracy is typically over 95%. City-level accuracy ranges from 50–75%. VPNs, proxies, and mobile networks may show a server or gateway location rather than the user's actual physical location.

An ASN (Autonomous System Number) is a unique number assigned to a network operator — typically an ISP, hosting company, or content delivery network (CDN). It identifies which organization controls a block of IP addresses on the internet's routing system.

IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses (e.g. 203.0.113.1) providing approximately 4.3 billion unique addresses. IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses, providing virtually unlimited addresses. IPv6 was introduced to address IPv4 exhaustion as the number of internet-connected devices grew worldwide.

Yes. Connect to your VPN, then open this tool. If your VPN is working, the IP address shown will be your VPN server's IP — not your real one. The country, ISP, and ASN shown will reflect the VPN server's location rather than yours.

No. TechOreo does not log the IP addresses you look up. The tool queries the ipapi.co API directly from your browser and displays results locally. History is stored temporarily in your browser session only and is cleared when you close the tab.
